Jump Rope for Heart/ Hoops for Heart

Get ready to save lives!

We kicked off our Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart program in P.E last week and our school’s event is right around the corner! This is a fun and exciting event for our entire school as we work together to raise money for the American Heart Association and save lives!

Your students will be telling you about the Lifesaver puppies, so we wanted to fill you in! Each puppy teaches the kids a new way to protect their heart and avoid risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your student can earn all 6!

If you raise $5 your student will get Super Pup at school now. If that donation is made online they will also get a second puppy, Ninja Star. Any student who reaches $85 online will get Martia N. Mutley.

Need help raising donations? Here are some ideas to try!
You can sign up now but following these quick easy steps and get started raising money and saving lives!

2. Choose our state and city.
3. Select our school and join team.
4. Login

You can also use the Jump/Hoops App to ask friends and family to support you! Follow the link below to download the App! It is super easy and fun!

Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association. You are making a big difference! Thank you for being a Heart Hero!

Quotes

After explaining a certain game of tag that we were going to play, I had these comments back from three students in two different classes...

2nd grade boy - "It's kind of like a virus!"
2nd grade boy - "It's kind of like the cold war. Taggers are the redcoats and the free people are the Yankees!"
2nd grade girl - "It's like the free people are a unicorn and everyone is chasing it!"

My only guess is that I was so boring in my explanation that they all started to daydream about different adventures that this tag game could be! :)

4th grade boy - "I don't know why, but it feels like I pulled my legs this morning."
(5 minutes later, after I had explained a very fun soccer game we were going to play)... "I think I actually only pulled this one, but I can kick with this leg."

*

Kindergarteners LOVE to share stories. They also often don't differentiate between whether they are asking a question or sharing a comment/story. When half of the hands go up, I have to remind them that we only have time for questions. This girl had a very smooth way to squeak in her comment through a question!

Me - "Boys and girls, if it isn't a question about PE today, hands down."
Kindergarten girl - "Ummmm"...long pause... "How fun was the tag game last time? Really fun!"
Smart girl!

Intro to Home Plays

Home Plays are the PE version of homework! So far, students have received two Home Plays this year. Please keep them in a convenient place where your child is most likely to see and be inspired by them! Try keeping the current copy on the fridge and work as a family toward making the healthy choices that they are learning about!

Check back each month to see through Home Plays what we are learning about!

Intro to Student Quotes

In January 2013, I started a journal for the many hilarious quotes I hear from students. If I always had a pen available, this page would be much longer! Here you will find, in no particular order, some of the things that keep the teaching life interesting and entertaining ;)
